Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez return Saturday night for a rematch on the Las Vegas Strip. The 160-pound titles are at stake once again as the two fighters try to settle what they couldn't in last September's draw.
By Michael Rosenthal - Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez fight for a second time on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Here are some questions I have going into the fight. Alvarez has been through a lot since he fought Golovkin last September. The decision that gave him a draw was ridiculed by many of those who though...
Former four division world champion Miguel Cotto believes that Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez will make the necessary adjustments, to come out with the victory this Saturday when he will face IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in a rematch at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Gennady Golovkin wants to "hurt" Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in their much-anticipated rematch, which the Kazakh's promoter believes will be a bigger event than the original bout. Golovkin and Alvarez had been due to meet for a second time on May 5, following their draw almost exactly a year ago.
Gennady Golovkin will target a showdown with Billy Joe Saunders in 2019 if he prevails in a rematch with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, his promoter has confirmed. Saunders was pencilled in as a backup for this weekend if Golovkin and Alvarez had failed to agree terms on the follow-up to their 2017 draw, but the fight with the WBO champion was put on the back-burner after a deal was struck.
In the lead-up to Saturday night's rematch between middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and challenger Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Golovkin's trainer Abel Sanchez had complained that in last year's bout between the two - Alvarez had illegally wrapped his hands using a method called 'stacking' in which tape and gauze were layered against the rules.
Demetrius Andrade and Daniel Jacobs are both targeting the winner of the rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas this weekend – and they broke off from their training camps for two huge World title bouts to pick their winner.
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's own promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has said he wants to see the Mexican beaten up by Gennady Golovkin on Saturday. The two fighters are set to meet in a Las Vegas rematch this weekend after a previously scheduled second bout was postponed after Canelo tested positive for clenbuterol and subsequently served a six-month ban.
Former world champion Amir Khan is still shaking his head at Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Khan has long stated that a lifetime ban should have been issued when Canelo tested positive for clenbuterol back in February. Canelo, who received a six month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, has stated in several interviews that his positive tests were a direct result of ingesting contaminated meat.
LAS VEGAS – It should benefit Gennady Golovkin if Canelo Alvarez stands and trades with him Saturday night more than Alvarez did during their first fight. That’s not the only reason Abel Sanchez hopes the Mexican icon keeps his word and exchanges with Golovkin more in their rematch at T-Mobile Arena. Golovkin’s veteran trainer believes Alvarez owes that to the fans who are willing to pay roughly $85 to watch their second bout on pay-per-view.
