Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-0-1, 34 KOs) has no doubt that he did enough to win a twelve round decision over WBC, IBO, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs).
The boxers collided in September 2017, with the contest ending in a controversial twelve round split decision. The judges saw it 118-110 Canelo, 115-113 Golovkin and 114-114 for the draw.
A rematch is only a few weeks away - with both boxers deep in camp for a showdown on September 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo's co-trainer, Eddy Reynoso, agrees with his boxer's viewpoint on the outcome.
Reynoso reviewed the contest quite a few times and he strongly feels that Canelo did more than enough to clearly win the fight.
But, he does admit Canelo needs to throw a lot more punches in the rematch.
"We did a good fight. I thought we did a good fight. We fought defensively. It was a great demonstration by Saul. Obviously, he needs to throw more punches. That's not a secret, even though I thought we won the fight clearly," Eddy Reynoso said.
"But to win it even more clearly, he would have to throw more. We've been analyzing the fight a lot, and we're going to work on that and hopefully walk away with a victory and demonstrate what we've learned on September 15th."
Canelo's other co-trainer, Chepo Reynoso, agrees with the position of his son - regarding Canelo being the clear winner and the requirement to be more active in the upcoming second fight.
"I've seen the fight a few times, and I saw that Canelo won, and I think he showed a lot of great defense, enormous defense. He showed good waist movement, he made him miss a lot. As I said previously, he put water in his gunpowder, which means that he neutralized [Golovkin]," Chepo Reynoso said.
"If he needs something -- if he thought he needed something in that fight, maybe he needed to throw a little bit more, maybe he needed to land a few more punches to remove any doubts about the decision, and we hope that on this occasion things will be different."
