Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) is still standing firm on a catch-weight of 155-pounds for a fall showdown with Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).

The fighters have been ordered to face each other in the fall. Golovkin, who holds the IBO/WBA/IBF belts, is the mandatory challenger to Canelo's WBC middleweight title.

Canelo will make a voluntary defense on May 7th and Golovkin is set to return on April 23rd.

For his last four bouts, Canelo has fought at 155 - which is one pound above the junior middleweight limit. He captured the WBC title last November with a twelve round unanimous decision win over Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico.

The big controversy related to the fight with Golovkin is the weight. Canelo, who had to cut down to 152 for a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013, is unwilling to break away from a weight where he feels comfortable - 155.

Because Golovkin is a mandatory challenger, he is under no obligation to agree to a catch-weight. If Canelo refuses to fight him in the fall, then he will be stripped and Golovkin will become the full champion by default. Golovkin wants the full middleweight limit of 160-pounds.

"This fight has to happen at some point, at whatever weight. There was a time where I had to give things up in order to have these big fights. I am now at a point where I don't have to give advantages to anyone. I believe this fight has to happen. It is necessary to wait until the moment [to work out the details] and I can see [the fight] happening in the short-term," Canelo said to ESPN Deportes.

A few years ago, Canelo had some sparring session with Golovkin. He liked the work and learned a lot, but make its clear that things will be quite different when they step in the ring.

"It was very good sparring, two world champions, a middleweight and a junior middleweight. They were good sparring sessions. It would be very different [in a fight], because in a fight it is always very different, but we are ready for anything," Canelo said.
