While Golden Boy Promotions is waiting for an answer from former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs), plans are already being made for a backup opponent for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's return on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"If it won't be [Cotto], there is Sergey Rabchenko, Erisandy Lara, Carlos Molina and Alfredo Angulo waiting. From the point of view of a promoter, I can say that I would prefer to see Alfredo Angulo more than others from the point of view of his style. I think that Angulo would be a great fight, people do not like to see chess matches," Schaefer said.

However, Canelo's manager/trainer Eddy Reynoso does not view Angulo as the best option, because the boxer is coming off a TKO defeat to Erislandy Lara. He says Molina, who hold the IBF junior middleweight championship, is the best option.

"We want to go forward and Angulo is coming off a knockout loss. Lara is a better option, but the ideal oponent is the champion Molina. He has all of the merits and people saw him on pay-per-view in September, and that is something that we would be looking for," Reynoso said.
