Guadalajara's superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) is craving a showdown with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Angel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) on May 2. Canelo is currently on vacation and rehabbing an ankle injury. His promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, is trying to lock in a deal to face Cotto on the date.

Canelo says there are other options if the deal falls through, but he won't step away from the May date - even tough Floyd Mayweather Jr. is planning to fight on the date as well.

"Right now I'm on vacation, I had a foot problem, I am rehabilitating. [For the rest of] this year I'm on vacation and in January I'll start training for a fight in May. May 5, the Battle of Puebla, in the United States it is highly celebrated and I'm going to fight on that date. The strongest name being discussed is Miguel Angel Cotto, but there are several options, so we're waiting [for news]," Canelo said.

"I will fight in May. It is an important date for me and I will not move from that date. I want to give us back the Mexican dates because they are really for us. [Cotto] is a great champion, he is a fighter who has a lot of history, a well known name. He is champion in another division. I love it because it's a natural fight. People ask about it, because it's a fight where the styles are going to work together very well and I would love to fight him to give the people a good battle."
