Canelo: I've Always Felt I'm The Best - Now More Than Ever!

By Miguel Rivera

WBC, WBA middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) is looking to make history next month, when he moves up to the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds to challenge WBA "regular" champion Rocky Fielding.

Canelo has captured world titles at junior middleweight and unseated Gennady Golovkin in September for his two middleweight belts.

The contest with Fielding takes place on December 15th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Canelo is very motivated to enter a specific category - as being the tenth boxer in the history of Mexican boxing to capture world titles in three weight divisions.

Some of the boxers to complete that feat include Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, Erik Morales and several others.

Canelo began his career at welterweight. He captured the WBC, WBA and WBO titles at 154. And captured the WBC title twice at 160 and the WBA.

"It would be a great story in my career to be part of the Top Ten list of Mexicans who captured a world title in three divisions. It's a great challenge for us and a story I want in my career," Canelo said.

Despite the many critics who are stacked against him, Canelo is very satisfied with his career accomplishments and feels confident in where he stands when it comes to the elite level fighters on the world level.

"As I have always said, I have always considered myself to be the best and now more than ever. I am here for that reason and for that motivation to be the best," Canelo said.

Canelo explained that being or not being on the pound-for-pound list does not excite or upset him.

"I am satisfied with what I am doing. I place my focus on getting in the ring and giving everything," Canelo said.
