Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is continuing to train for his May 9th clash with James Kirkland, but he still has WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto fully on his radar. Canelo-Kirkland takes place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and it will be the first fight of the Mexican star's new television deals with TV Azteca and HBO.

Cotto is back in early June against former WBA/IBF champion Daniel Geale. If Canelo and Cotto both win, HBO is looking to stage a pay-per-view clash between the two of them for the fall.

There were talks for Canelo-Cotto earlier this year. They fell apart of the financial details. It was the second time discussions to make the fight fell through.

"I've always said that Cotto is a natural fight, a fight that should happen and I hope the third time is the charm and we can reach an agreement and provide this fight for the people. And if not, as I have don with other opponents, I have to choose the best available and move on, but I hope the fight is done," said Canelo to ESPN Deportes.
