Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez maintains that he doesn't see a reason for a trilogy fight with Gennadiy Golovkin.

Canelo and Golovkin fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in September 2017. And then Canelo won a close twelve round majority decision over Golovkin in the rematch.

Since then, Canelo moved up to super middleweight and captured the WBA "regular" title with a three round demolition of Rocky Fielding. He came back down to middleweight and won a unification with Daniel Jacobs, and now he's scheduled to move up by two weight classes to challenge WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev.

Golovkin came back earlier this year and took out overmatched opponent Steve Rolls.

He then came back last night, and went life and death with Sergey Derevyanchenko. He walked away with a twelve round majority decision win at Madison Square Garden in New York City, to win the IBF, IBO middleweight titles.

Even before the fight took place, Canelo made it clear that a win over Derevyanchenko would not be enough.

"I am the fighter to beat, the one everyone wants to face. Since he fought with me, Golovkin, what has he done? He hasn't done anything," Canelo told TV Azteca.

"I already talked to [Golden Boy Promotions]. If they want me to fight with him, the only thing he represents is some business. If he does not represent a challenge, I will not do it. If they want the fight, break down the numbers to me and then maybe. I want another kind of challenge.

"I'm come back from facing pure world champion [in Jacobs], and now I'm climbing two divisions to fight with someone who is not coming off a loss. [Golovkin] no longer represents any challenge. I beat him, I gave him 24 rounds and he could not [beat me]. What will happen in the third? I'm going to win again, I'll even knock him out."
