Former WBC and WBA super welterweight world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) is motivated to become a future Hall of Famer. In order to do so, he needs to beat some Hall of Fame fighters - like his upcoming opponents, reigning WBC and Lineal middleweight world champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs).

Canelo had his first shot to accomplish this in September of 2013, when he challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand. Mayweather, with few issues, won a twelve round decision to give the rising Mexican boxer his first career defeat.

"Look, I think for a fight like you need to have extended negotiations. They took a while because they had to take to make the two parties happy, to ensure that Cotto was happy and I was happy. It is best for both sides to be satisfied," Canelo told El Nuevo Dia."

So we made the fight and now I am very happy because, as I said, because it's an honor for me to fight with Miguel Angel Cotto, who has won everything, and he's going to be a legend in boxing. To become a legend, you have to beat a fighter like Miguel Angel Cotto. I am honored to fight someone like him."
