Callum Johnson: record, next fight and profile →
Eddie Hearn, the promoter for light heavyweights Callum Johnson and Joshua Buatsi, could see his two boxers colliding with either a European or world title at stake. While there has been some chatter about the two boxers colliding in the ring, Hearn would like to avoid the scenario of matching his fighters against each other.
Callum Johnson believes that a huge domestic clash with rising Light-Heavyweight star Joshua Buatsi is inevitable down the line as he spoke with Chris Lloyd in the latest episode of Matchroom Boxing’s podcast ‘The Lockdown Tapes’.
Callum Johnson will take on Igor Mikhalkin for the vacant EBU European Light-Heavyweight Title on the undercard of the blockbuster Heavyweight clash between Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin at Manchester Arena on Saturday May 2, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The fight for the vacant EBU light heavyweight title between Callum Johnson (18-1) and Igor Mikhalkin (23-2) that was set for March 7 in Manchester on a Matchroom promotion is now pushed forward until May 2 with site remaining Manchester. There´s been no reason given for the postponement. Topping the bill May 2 is Dillian Whyle vs Alexander Povetkin.
Dangerous light heavyweight puncher Callum Johnson is looking ahead to a big year in 2020. He's hoping to secure a crack at WBA world champion Dmitry Bivol before the end of the year.
Joshua Buatsi and Callum Johnson are scheduled to face opponents in March that they should defeat. If Buatsi beats Blake Caparello and Johnson overcomes Igor Mikhalkin, Eddie Hearn would like to put together a Buatsi-Johnson fight later this year. A bout between the 26-year-old, unbeaten Buatsi (12-0, 10 KOs) and the hard-hitting Johnson (18-1, 13 KOs) is one Hearn considers a compelling domestic showdown for fans in the United Kingdom.
Callum Johnson (18-1) and Igor Mikhalkin (23-2) will clash for the vacant EBU light heavyweight title on March 7 in Manchester on a Matchroom promotion - at least according to the EBU. Mikhalkin won the IBO interim title in his last fight but was stripped of the belt when the "real" champ and Igor´s stablemate in EC Boxing, Sven Fornling, became fit for fight after an injury and then lost the title to Dominic Boesel.
The fight for the vacant EBU heavyweight title between Joe "Juggernaut" Joyce (10-0) and Marco Huck (41-5-1) will go ahead on January 11 in Hannover (Germany) - at least according to the EBU. The fight is promoted by Huck Service Gmbh (headed by Marco´s brother Kenan) who won purse bids October 16 with an offer for 480,000 Euro - but the date s not yet officially confirmed by Huck & Co and there is no venue announced either.
Top light heavyweight contender Callum Johnson gave his take on the upcoming top scraps in his weight class. Later tonight, undefeated world champions Oleksrandr Gvozdyk and Artur Beterbiev will collide in a WBC, IBF unification in Philadelphia. And on November 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Canelo Alvarez will jump up by two weight divisions to challenge WBO world champion Sergey Kovalev.
The most obvious evidence of Artur Beterbiev being beatable occurred a year ago in Chicago. Callum Johnson, knocked down by Beterbiev in the first round of their fight for Beterbiev’s IBF light heavyweight title, dropped the rugged Russian knockout artist in the second round. England’s Johnson landed a left hook that stunned Beterbiev, but the champion managed to get up and survived the most problematic moment of his six-year pro career.
