Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, in a recent interview with The Fight Network, said the fighters under contract with Golden Boy Promotions will not beat the current crop of superstars under the Top Rank banner. Arum and Golden Boy owner Oscar De La Hoya waged a personal war for a few years that began when De La Hoya left Top Rank to start his own promotional company.

Last year, the two sides called a truce and staged a few co-promoted events, including Cotto-Mosley, Pacquiao-Barrera and Pacquiao-Marquez. The tensions began to come out again during last few months when Pacquiao was awarded a close split-decision over Marquez. Arum told TFN that he will match his superstars against anybody.

"No, they ain’t going to beat us because they are a lot of talk and a lot of posturing and when it comes to boxing we know what we’re doing, we really do. We’re selling fights, we’re selling fighters. They have some very good fighters, but our fighters are the best in the world. Kelly Pavlik, Manny Pacquiao, Margarito, Miguel Cotto… we’ll put them up against anybody.

Arum would later comment on Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr, two fighters who spent most of their careers under the Top Rank banner.

"Certainly we gave them a good start and we got it done. As far as Oscar is concerned he seems to be pretty frugal with his money and the thing with Mayweather that breaks my heart, is the more money he makes the bigger idiot he becomes and that’s not good as a role model for the younger fighters," Arum said.
