BJ Flores: record, next fight and profile →
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas, Nevada - WBA 'regular' cruiserweight champion Beibut Shumenov (17-2, 11KOs) had to get off the deck to retain his title and stopped Junior Wright (15-2-1, 12KOs) in the tenth round.
Former cruiserweight title challenger BJ Flores (31-2-1) will return to the ring on May 21st at The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. against Roberto Santos (12-3). The fight will be on the undercard of the Showtime televised card that will broadcast three fights in the super welterweight division. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas - Cruiserweight contender BJ Flores (31-2-1, 20KOs) is planning to test the waters in the heavyweight division. Flores was last in the ring in July, when he lost a controversial twelve round decision in a WBA interim-title fight with Beibut Shumenov.
Broadcast analyst for Premier Boxing Champions, BJ Flores, believes British star Amir Khan should stay quiet, sit back and allow the major fights to come to him. Khan has been very vocal for the last two to three years in his pursuit of Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight never happened as Khan repeatedly got passed over, and Mayweather announced his retirement last month after winning a decision over Andre Berto.
Cruiserweight contender and Premier Boxing Champions commentator BJ Flores believes British star Amir Khan has only himself to blame for being unable to secure a fight with WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. Khan has been campaigning to get Mayweather in the ring for the last two years. Things did not work out as planned when Mayweather announced that he was fighting Andre Berto on September 12th on Showtime Pay-Per-View from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather claims the upcoming bout will be the final fight of his pro career.
Cruiserweight contender and Premier Boxing Champions commentator, BJ Flores, believes Floyd Mayweather's upcoming Showtime Pay-Per-View is going to generate respectable buyrate numbers. How well? Flores expects the numbers to be similar to Mayweather's first pay-per-view fight with Marcos Maidana in May of 2014 and the Robert Guerrero fight in May of 2013.
LAS VEGAS, NV -- Ryan Burton catches up with cruiserweight contender BJ Flores to get his thoughts on a variety of topics at the Nevada State Boxing Hall of Fame.
BoxingScene.com caught up with cruiserweight contender and NBC color analyst BJ Flores following his recent and somewhat controversial decision loss to Beibut Shumenov in their Premier Boxing Champions clash for the interim-WBA title fight at The Palms in Las Vegas. BoxingScene: You lost a close decision to Shumenov last month on your home network NBC. All three judges had it 116-112. Were you suprised with the scoring?
While Sergey Kovalev commaned most of the attention in town and on the dial in his three-round destruction of overmatched Nadjib Mohammedi, another major headliner took place in Las Vegas. The 12-round of action (or lack thereof) produced by Kazakhstan's Beibut Shumenov and B.J. Flores hardly left the industry abuzz, although the final scores warrant greater mention than what has taken place to date. Shumenov walked away with a unanimous decision in their interim cruiserweight title last Saturday at Palms Resort in Las Vegas. All three judges scoring the bout 116-112 in favor of the former 175 lbs. titlist, on an NBC Sports Network televised presentation of Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series.
LAS VEGAS - Beibut Shumenov (16-2, 10 KOs) defeated B.J. Flores (31-2-1, 20 KOs) by unanimous decision Saturday night to win a cruiserweight world title on Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN from the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort. Shumenov came out aggressive early before using his movement late to earn a world title in a second division and become the first fighter from Kazakhstan to achieve that feat. Flores was competitive throughout the fight, countering effectively when Shumenov showed aggression while landing more power punches.
