Super middleweight contender Avni Yildirim is still hoping to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who last week became a free agent.
Canelo reached an agreement in his widely reported lawsuit, where he was able to secure a release from his promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions and a release from his network deal with DAZN.
The Mexican superstar is now pushing to return to the ring next month.
Canelo has been inactive since November of 2019, when he moved up to light heavyweight to score a knockout over Sergey Kovalev for the WBO world title. He would later vacate the title for a planned move to super middleweight.
A planned return in the month of May was eventually canceled due to the coronaviris pandemic.
The World Boxing Council would order Canelo to face Yildirim for the vacant WBC super middleweight title.
The belt became vacant when world champion David Benavidez failed to make weight for a voluntary defense against Roamer Angulo.
A purse bid for the contest has been postponed several times due to Canelo's legal situation.
Now the status of the WBC title fight is unknown as Yildiirm waits for an answer.
"I am the WBC mandatory contender [to the vacant super middleweight title], I earned that right from the fight with Anthony Dirrell in which I was so close to conquering my dream," Yildirim said.
"The WBC ordered me to fight Canelo and I have been ready. But if he goes on a different direction that is his decision. I don't care about anything, don't care about money, I only care to fight for the WBC green belt and become the first ever world champion from Turkey."
