Wladimir Klitschko defends his WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles in Germany on April 30 yet the Ukrainian has more than just his challenger, Derek Chisora, on his mind. Wlad, 55-3 (49), is still smarting over the failure to secure a unification fight with WBA title-holder David Haye. The 34-year-old has told the BBC that Haye needs the fight in order to secure a heavyweight legacy.
“He has been trying to be smart but eventually he put himself into a corner and he's talking about legacy? I don't see any legacy with David Haye, I'm sorry but I have to be honest with you. That isn't just my opinion, it is the opinion of the fans around the world. Money is not an issue. It doesn't matter where we fight.”
'Dr. Steelhammer' has called the shots in recent months, lining up fights with Chisora and negotiating with both Haye and Tomasz Adamek. Haye is believed to be in talks with undefeated contender Alexander Povetkin, 21-0 (15), and mandatory challenger Ruslan Chagaev, 27-1-1 (17). Chagaev suffered a hepatitis scare in 2009 and is in danger of being rejected by the BBBoC, leaving the way clear for Povetkin.
'Hayemaker' has lined up a date at the O2 Arena, London on May 21st, the 30-year-old will hope to make it a hat-trick of wins at the massive venue after scoring successive KO victories over Enzo Maccarinelli and Monte Barrett in his previous O2 outings.
