Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte is pushing hard to get WBC heavyweight champion Deonay Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) in the ring.
Wilder was going to be ringside at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales this past weekend to watch the unification between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker, but a few days before the contest he changed is mind.
Wilder explained that he wasn't interested in making the trip - after Joshua, and his promoter Eddie Hearn, made it clear that Wilder would not be allowed to enter the ring in the post-fight aftermath.
Whyte is the WBC's top rated challenger - but the sanctioning body has not ordered Wilder to make his mandatory defense as of yet.
Whyte believes he was the sole reason Wilder avoided the trip to Cardiff. Wilder did admit that part of the reason he avoided the trip was because Hearn was going to use the big moment to build up a fight with Whyte instead of Joshua.
Whyte was also shaking his head at Wilder's recent statements about wanting to "catch a body" during a fight and having a complete disregard for the health of his opponents.
"When you put a fighter like Lucas Browne [and] I did [to him] last week it is worrying," Whyte told Give Me Sport.
"I celebrated at first but when I saw he was down I was worried because people have kids and families to go home to.
"I don’t know how Deontay Wilder’s head works, he has not turned up here tonight because he heard I was coming.
"I don’t understand his mentality, he is a weird guy, he is extremely deluded and confused. He has told me I will have to wait two years for my shot at him but the WBC is a respectable belt and they will force the mandatory soon and make him fight me."
