Yesterday it was the comebacks of Tyson Fury and Canelo Alvarez grabbing all the boxing headlines and today it’s the sons of Fernando Vargas – Fernando Vargas Jnr and Amado Vargas – scrapping in the lobby of the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.

The fight, such as it was, has been viewed millions of times after an onlooker was quick to record the action and share it online. The brawl was brief, it involved a house plant, and whether it was a legit altercation is for now unknown. Their 21-year-old brother, the promising 16-0 (13 KOs) Emiliano Vargas, reacted to the online noise. “People love drama,” he wrote on social media. “Do I condone my brothers fighting? Not at all. The ones pointing fingers forget they have family they couldn’t even be in the same room together.”

He has a point. Whatever the reason for fisticuffs it’s still surprising that two brothers having a disagreement is gaining so much traction. After all, brothers come to blows all the time, whether boxers or not.

The 29-year-old Fernando, 17-1 (15 KOs), was previously seen fighting – in more civilised circumstances – when he was outpointed over 10 rounds by junior middleweight contender Callum Walsh in September on the Terence Crawford-Canelo Alvarez undercard. Amado, 25, took his record to 13-0 (6 KOs) last April when he knocked out Angel Luna in the third round of a lightweight bout. Emiliano will take on Agustin Ezequiel Quintana on February 28 in Glendale, Arizona on the Emanuel Navarrete-Eduardo Nunez card.

Their father, Fernando Vargas, retired in 2007 with a 26-5 (22 KOs). The 47-year-old was one of the most popular fighters of his generation and is a former IBF titlist at 154lbs.
