Ramon Garcia and Lionel Mark Duran both made weight for their 12-round main event Saturday in Veracruz, Mexico.
Garcia came in at right at the junior flyweight limit of 108 lb; Duran was slightly lighter at 106.9 lb. The bout tops a show titled “Mexico vs. Philippines”, with all of the night’s matchups theme-appropriate.
A former strawweight titlist, Garcia (19-4-1, 12KO) has won three straight following a near-disastrous patch in his career where he suffered three losses in a span of four fights. The 31-year old, whose twin brother Raul also competes in the junior flyweight division, is gunning for a shot at reigning titlist Adrian Hernandez, who just announced his next title defense set for next month in Mexico.
Duran (11-9-2, 5KO) fights for the first time outside of his native Philippines.
Also on the card, former super flyweight titlist Tomas ‘Gusano’ Rojas looks to keep his bantamweight title hopes alive as he faces Vergel Nebran. Both fighters came in at 120.2 lb.
Rojas (41-14-1, 27KO) has won two straight since landing on the wrong end of one of the best knockouts of 2012, getting flattened by unbeaten Shinsuke Yamanaka in their Nov. ’12 bantamweight title fight.
The show airs live on Cadena Tres in Mexico.
