If the local boxing commission approves a boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor, then WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman sees no reason why a win over McGregor shouldn't count as Mayweather's 50th victory.

Mayweather retired last September after winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Andre Berto. The former five division world champion walked away with a perfect record of 49-0 with 26 knockouts.

McGregor, a worldwide MMA superstar who holds the UFC's featherweight title - seems to be the only potential comeback opponent being mentioned by Mayweather.

Very few people are taking the Mayweather-McGregor fight seriously, and quite honestly even Sulaiman is refusing to place any stock in the discussion.

Both Mayweather and McGregor seem to be using each other to create headlines. UFC President Dana White had denied the possibility of such a fight.

"For us, Mayweather is retired. Everything else is speculation, advertising, to stay in the public eye. The UFC always tries to use boxing to generate news, create opportunities. You will find that competition that does not exist between [boxing and MMA] because they are totally different sports," said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.

Sulaiman also cautions, that if Mayweather-McGregor did come together - under boxing rules and was sanctioning by the Las Vegas Athletic Commission - the victory should officially count on Mayweather's record.

"If Floyd Mayweather steps into the ring under the professional rules, even if it's a fight over four rounds - it would be 50-0," Sulaiman said.
