Promoter Frank Warren sent a message to light heavyweight champ Bernard Hopkins - "You are not the name fighter." Warren, respoding to Hopkins' comments on Calzaghe's popularity in America, fired back on his official website.
"Bernard Hopkins claims that no one knows Joe Calzaghe in the States - while he would stop the traffic if he ever came to Cardiff. I don't know what planet Hopkins is living on," Warren said. "One thing for sure though, Hopkins would certainly stop the traffic in Jermain Taylor's home state of Arkansas, they would remember him from when he got his arse kicked twice in middleweight world title fights with Taylor."
Warren says that HBO wants the fight, but he would like an even bigger fight for Calzaghe, one that invloves a clash with unbeaten WBO/WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.
"HBO wants Calzaghe to fight Hopkins, but they regard Joe as the name, not Bernard. But for me an even bigger fight would involve Joe taking on middleweight number one Kelly Pavlik," Warren said.
