BoxingScene.com has been advised that Polish heavyweight giant Mariusz Wach (27-1, 15KOs) withdrew from a scheduled HBO showdown with Bryant Jennings (17-0, 9KOs). The fight was going to take place on January 18th at the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada. The main event that evening is a light heavyweight grudge match between Canadian superstars Lucian Bute and Jean Pascal.
Jennings' promoter, Gary Shaw, thought he had a done deal. Wach had a change of heart.
"I can't believe it. The contracts were done, everything was done. I thought I had a deal," Shaw told BoxingScene.com. "Wach is no Polish warrior. After the contract went out he became a Polish sausage."
Shaw recently signed Jennings after the boxer parted ways with promoters Russell Peltz and Main Events.
At the moment, Shaw is having trouble securing a new opponent for Jennings, as several top heavyweights have rejected the fight or requested a monetary sum that neither Shaw or HBO can accommodate.
Wach, standing at nearly 6'8 and usually weighing around 250-pounds, was last seen in December of 2012 - when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko. Following the match, Wach tested positive for a banned substance and he was suspended for several months.
Jennings was last seen in the ring in June of this year, when he stopped Andrey Fedosov in six rounds.
