Vito Mielnicki Jnr and Omar Huerta both made weight Friday for their 10-round middleweight fight in Atlantic City, though one boxer in the co-main event needed two trips to the scales.
Mielnicki, 22-1 (13 KOs), of Roseland, New Jersey, came in at 159.6lbs, while Tijuana, Mexico’s Omar Huerta, 15-0-1 (13 KOs), was 157.6lbs. The fight – surprisingly Mielnicki’s first in Atlantic City – will headline a ProBox TV card Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall.
Mielnicki, 23, will be fighting for the first time since signing with promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, while Huerta, 30, is seeking to rebound following his first career blemish, a draw against Antonio Barajas Arballo a year ago in Mexico.
In the co-main event, Dwyke Flemmings Jnr, 11-0 (10 KOs), of Paterson, New Jersey, came in under the limit at 153.6lbs for his 10-round bout with Yan Marcos, 14-0 (10 KOs), of Havana, Cuba, who came in .6lbs over the limit on his first attempt, then came back at 154lbs even when he returned to the scale an hour later.
In other action, Heidan Martinez Morillo, 17-0 (17 KOs), weighed in at 139.7lbs for his ten-round junior welterweight fight against Daiyaan Butt, 20-3 (10 KOs), who was slightly heavier at 139.8lbs. Martinez of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic is fighting for the first time in the U.S., while Butt of Philadelphia is seeking to bounce back from his decision loss to Alex Martin last July.
