Former 154-pound champion Verno Phillips (41-11-1, 21 KOs) returned to action at the Wynn in Las Vegas to pick up a ten-round unanimous decision over Eddie Sanchez (15-7-2, 9 KOs). The scores were 97-93 across the boards.
Phillips, a former IBF and WBO junior middleweight champion is inching closer to another title shot. In his last three fights, Phillips has defeated Teddy Reid, JC Candello and now Sanchez to pile up a three fight win streak.
The last time Phillips was beaten was in 2005, on the losing end of a close decision to Ike Quartey.
On the undercard, heavyweight prospect Alonzo Butler (25-0-1, 18 KOs) won an easy ten-round decision over James Walton (21-9-2, 11 KOs). The scores were 100-89, 100-89 and 99-90.
Butler put Walton down in the final round, but ran out of time to follow-up for the stoppage.
