After his fifth round stoppage of Rocky Martinez on June 11th, Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4KOs) finds himself in a position where he holds both the 126 and 130-pound titles for the WBO. Soon he will have to make a decision on which belt he will keep.
Bob Arum, who promotes the Ukrainian told BoxingScene.com on Tuesday morning - "I think he's going to keep the 130-pound title. We're going to get confirmation this week."
"That's what we are thinking but before we announce it we just want to make sure we are in the right situation,"said Egis Klimas, who manages Lomachenko.
Lomachenko's win over Martinez made boxing history, with the two-time Olympic gold medal winner becoming the first boxer to become a two-division world champion in only his seventh professional fight.
As for when we will see him again, Klimas says that Arum was talking about an October return.
But against whom?
"Vasyl wants to fight any champion at 126 or 130,"explained Klimas."As long as he sees another champion in front of him, he's fine."
If Lomachenko does drop the WBO featherweight title, the July 23rd bout between Oscar Valdez and Matias Rueda at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will be for the vacant belt.
