Tyson Fury has voiced his support for a fellow heavyweight after it was revealed that he was defeated by a drug cheat.
The newly crowned heavyweight champion of the world, who outpointed Ukrainian kingpin Wladimir Klitschko in Germany last month, is backing arch rival David Price in the wake of the Erkan Teper doping scandal.
Price was stopped by the German inside two rounds back in July and it has since been proven that the 33-year-old, who has been handed a two-year suspension by the EBU, is under investigation on suspicion of unlawful possession of doping substances.
Teper had already been dealt a one-year ban by the German Boxing Federation (BDB), on December 9 –– eight days after pulling out of his next scheduled defence of the belt against Robert Helenius in Finland –– but this only recently came to light.
The result of the July fight between Teper and Price, which was for the vacant European heavyweight title, has now been made a no-contest.
And 27-year-old Fury said: “As the champion of the world, I think [David Price’s] losses should be [changed] as both [Tony Thompson, who Price lost to –– twice –– by KO in 2013] & [Erkan] Teper failed drugs tests.”
“[Change them to] no contests,” said Fury. “Be fair.
“Let's keep our sport clean, guys & girls. Let's set an example to other sports, no drugs, clean boxing, as it is the sweet science.”
