WBA "regular" junior middleweight Austin Trout (25-0, 14KOs) has been watching Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30KOs) for a very long time. He started watching Cotto when he tore apart the junior welterweight division. Since then, Cotto has captured titles at welterweight and junior middleweight.
On December 1st at New York's Madison Square Garden, Trout will finally get the chance to face the man himself.
Trout has enjoyed watching Cotto over the years, but he feels the Puerto Rican star's time has come to and end, and now it's time to take his throne.
"To be honest, I've been watching Miguel Cotto for a long time. First of all, I'm a boxing fan, so I've watched a lot of him. Now it's different when I watch him, I'm like 'ok, what do I have to do to neutralize that?,'" Trout told Paul Maldonado.
"I saw a lot of Miguel's fights when he was at 140 pounds, I think there he was in his prime, when he used to destroy his opponents."
"Now he fights very different than he did at 140. [Cotto's coach] Pedro Diaz has done many things [with Cotto's style], different things. Now Miguel boxes more, moves a lot more than he did. He used to stalk people down and destroy them."
"I think Cotto has had his time, and he did good with his time, but now it's my time."
