Jose "Chepo" Reynoso, trainer for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs), promises that his fighter will be in his best form to date when he takes on countryman Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs).
Their highly anticipated fight takes place on May 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo, who has never fought beyond the catch-weight limit of 155-pounds, will head up to 164.5 for the bout with Chavez.
Later today, Canelo and Chavez Jr. will go face to face in Mexico City as they begin a four city international press tour for their upcoming fight.
Reynoso is confident that a big leap in weight will not affect his fighter, who is facing a much bigger man. Chavez Jr. has fought as high as 172-pounds. He fought at the super middleweight limit of 168 last December, while Canelo stepped in the ring for a bout at 154-pounds in September.
"Saul is a very dedicated young man who always shows improvements in every fight. Julio is going to face the best possible version of Saul, and I'm sure that we'll see the same with Chavez - because both have a very big opportunity in front of them," said Reynoso to Carlos Zulbaran.
"I've heard the comments from [Chavez's team], who say they are prepared and confident to win. Well, we are also confident that Saúl will have a great performance. As far as the mental aspect, there are no distractions. Saul is excited to give Mexico the fight that they have been asking to see for years."
During the September knockout of Liam Smith, Canelo injured his right hand - which forced him to withdrew from a planned return in December. Reynoso confirms that the right hand is fully healed.
"Canelo is working perfect with the right hand... his injury is a thing of the past. He is preparing himself to the maximum, as if he was already fighting," Reynoso said.
