As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, David Haye has opened the door to a potential fight with Tony Bellew.
Bellew won the WBC cruiserweight title on Sunday, knocking out Ilunga Makabu in the third round at Everton's Goodison Park.
After the fight, the 33-year-old Liverpudlian called Haye to drop back down and take him on at cruiserweight.
The south Londoner had earlier this month declared himself satisfied with his reincarnation as a bigger heavyweight.
However, 35-year-old Haye responded on Monday via his Instagram account, saying: "Congratulations, you won the vacant WBC title - a lifelong ambition realised.
"But amongst all the excitement maybe that punch you took in the first round that dropped you ... your brain got scrambled because talking about knocking me out, you must have lost your mind.
"After I've knocked out Shannon Briggs - you want to be on the list too? I'm knocking out all people who are talking too much.
"I used to be a cruiserweight too so we're both the same height and the same size - let's do it, if you want it."
Bellew has reacted and he's not backing down from his position. He believes that he can not only beat Haye, but he can score a knockout of the former two division world champion. Of course Bellew will likely have to make a mandatory defense of his title in the fall and Haye is already scheduled to collide with Briggs. If both men overcome their upcoming fights, the showdown could make for an unexpected high profile attraction in the UK.
"I've always been labelled as this mouthy scouser who never backs it up, but I proved every single doubter out there wrong,” said Bellew.
“I'm not going to sit here and say I'm up there with the big giants – but I would tank David Haye any day of the week."
