WBC junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander's manager and trainer Kevin Cunningham reached out to BoxingScene.com to let us know Team Alexander officially opens camp on November 27th in Las Vegas. He also wanted to respond to comments recently made by promoter Gary Shaw who promotes WBO champion Timothy Bradley. Shaw had told BoxingScene's Rick Reeno that he wants to make a fight between Bradley and Manny Pacquiao after Bradley fights Alexander on January 29th.
"Gary Shaw has a big fight coming up between his guy Tim Bradley and Devon Alexander. He should be promoting this fight. A fight the magnitude of Bradley-Alexander should have been officially announced and have a venue lined up already."
The fight is the biggest to date for both Alexander and Bradley. Cunningham believes that both fighters should be treated with that in mind.
"Bradley-Alexander is Devon's biggest fight to date and I think Bradley would agree it's his biggest fight too. This fight should have been announced and we should have all of our press conferences and tours taken care of already. Its not fair to break both of these their camps to fly across the country to do press conferences. This is the fight of their lives and they should both be able to properly train for it."
Cunningham compared it to another fight taking place next month in the junior welterweight division.
"[Amir] Khan and [Marcos] Maidana signed their bout agreements and a week later they had done all of their press responsibilities and have time for an 8, 9 week solid training camp without interruption. I think Devon and Tim deserve the same."
The St. Louis based trainer went on to say, "Devon signed his bout agreement over a month ago and we still don't have an official announcement let alone a venue."
Cunningham then went back to what Shaw said about making a fight between Bradley and Pacquiao.
"Devon is going to whoop Bradley so that isn't happening anyway. I want to congratulate Manny Pacquiao for his performance Saturday night. Every person involved in boxing should be thankful for the contributions Manny has made to our sport."
