Kevin Cunningham reached out to BoxingScene.com to respond to recent comments made by WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi on Twitter. Malignaggi, the self proclaimed Twitter King (#TK), tweeted that he wanted to fight Cunningham's fighter Devon Alexander this past December but that Alexander turned down the opportunity and fought Marcos Maidana instead.
"Why the f*** would Devon duck Paulie to fight a stone cold knockout artist in Maidana? Neither HBO or Showtime would approve Paulie at that time. Devon fought a killer in his last fight while Paulie fought a nobody with a belt," an agitated Cunningham would tell BoxingScene.
Last October Malignaggi was seen on HBO pay-per-view sporting a shirt that said "Devon is my b*tch" following his unanimous decision victory over Orlando Lora. Cunningham, still remembering that lack of respect for his fighter, issued a challenge of his own to the Brooklyn native who has over 24,000 followers on Twitter.
"Hey Paulie, if Devon is a b*tch step up Mr. Twitter King and prove it. If the fight doesn't happen then all of his Twitter followers should drop his ass for being a fake."
Alexander has August 18th reserved for his ring return on Showtime while Malignaggi is looking to return in October at the Barclay Center's inaugural boxing event in his native Brooklyn, New York.
Cunningham said they would have no problem fighting Malignaggi in his backyard.
"Devon's ready to go to his backyard in Brooklyn and beat the mini skirt off this clown," said a confident Cunningham .
