This past Saturday evening, former three division champion 'Sugar' Shane Mosley (49-10-1, 41KOs) lost an unanimous decision to WBA interim welterweight champion David Avanesyan in Arizona.
Prior to the fight, Mosley had hoped that by capturing the title it would lead him to a bigger fight before calling it a career. The winner was guaranteed a mandatory shot at the full WBA title, which is being contested on June 25th between champion Keith Thurman and challenger Shawn Porter.
The loss snapped a two fight win streak for 44-year-old Mosley, who made his return to the sport last August after a near two-year layoff from his first ever TKO defeat, at the hands of junior middleweight contender Anthony Mundine.
After the fight the still durable veteran said that he wasn't sure if he would continue his hall of fame career or call it quits to concentrate on his promotional company GoBox and train his son, Shane Mosley Jr.
"I am not sure what I am going to do. There is still Marquez and Cotto who I want to get in the ring with. These young lions I was going to let them fight each other.
"I also have my company GoBox Promotions and my fighters that I am promoting. I'm going to tighten up the skills of Shane Jr. and my other fighters. Shane Jr. has a good chin and good power. We just need to sharpen him up," said Mosley.
