Word on the boxing street is that Shane Cameron is in line to be one punch away from a shot at the world heavyweight championship.
After smashing American Monte Barrett with a massive right, Duco’s David Higgins, co-promoter of the bout, has said that the Kiwi might have just paved the way for a WBO elimination fight.
"He's one punch away from a shot at Klitschko, I really believe that," Higgins was reported as saying.
The win against Barrett – ranked 12 by the WBO – may mean that when the rankings are released Cameron will fall within the top 10. And with the ranking, comes a real chance of working out a fight with a genuine title contender.
And on the cards would be a number one or two contender such as Russian Denis Boytsov or American Seth Mitchell currently, followed up by the winner to taking on Wladimir Klitschko.
"Cameron is the hottest heavyweight in New Zealand right now. Shane's had a lot of bad luck. It was about time he had some good luck. And it wasn't just luck, he did it in style,” said Higgins.

"Shane needs to decide if he wants a money fight against the likes of David Tua or wants to have a crack at the world title," Higgins said.
And the idea of a match up against New Zealand Heavyweight Champion Sonny Bill Williams? Cameron’s manager Ken Reinsfield had some thoughts.
Cameron's manager Ken Reinsfield said the idea the Barrett fight was a precursor to a date with Williams was a PR stunt cooked up by Duco.
"Sonny Bill would watch that fight and have a heart attack," Reinsfield said. "So would the New Zealand Rugby Union. You've got to be kidding me. There's no chance. But as (Cameron's) manager I say, 'Hell yes, we'll fight Sonny Bill.'
"Shane doesn't particularly want to fight him but I'd say, 'Shane, half of New Zealand will pay to watch this, half of New Zealand will pay to watch you knock him out,” Reinsfield said to the NZ Herald.
Cameron has not rule out targeting either Klitschko.
"It's a hard fight against the Klitschkos (Wladimir and Vitali), but again it's an opportunity," he said. "A lot of people wrote me off, they didn't think I was going to win but I won in great fashion," he was reported as saying.
