BoxingScene.com was informed that New Zealand heavyweight Shane Cameron (22-1, 19KOs) will face Leo Nolan (27-1, 10KOs) of Michigan on March 7 in Gisborne. The event will revolve around the homecoming of Cameron.
For the last few weeks Cameron's team has been in talks for a proposed June fight with fellow New Zealander, David Tua. The March event was a big stipulation on the side of Cameron to move forward with the Tua negotiations. The promoter of the event was initially against Cameron taking a March fight. Only a few things are clear, so far. Both fighters will receive $500,000. Tua has signed a contract. Cameron has not signed on as of yet and his team is not satisfied with the current terms.
Nolan is a bit of an unknown. One majority decision loss to a below average opponent in 2007. Notable wins against Lou Savarese, Jeremy Bates and Julius Long. Nolan, 36, began his career in 1992, but didn't have any fights from May 1993 until June 2001. Further digging revealed that he was involved in some legal trouble. He was shot five times by an off-duty cop, and did a four year prison stint.
