Shah Khan, the father of former two division world champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18KOs), revealed that his son is possibly a few days away from joining the chase for a big-money fight with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs). Khan, who lost his WBA/IBF junior welterweight titles last December to Lamont Peterson, is giving Peterson a few days to accept a proposed rematch.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, offered Peterson a big purse of $1.5 million dollars and a 50-50 split on the world-wide revenues for a Khan rematch on May 19th at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Peterson is considering the offer, but he also has a lucrative opportunity to land a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez on July 14th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Shah told The Sun that Peterson has a few days to accept before his son moves on.
"The talks have moved on a little but it's taking quite some time. If we haven't reached an agreement by the end of this week then Amir willl move on with his career. He'll move up to 147 and chase the big bout at that weight," Shah said.
