Sean McGlinchey has called it a day.

The popular super-middleweight recently announced he was hanging up his gloves.

“I’d like to let everyone know that I am hanging the gloves up,” he said. “I feel my time in the game has come to an end. I don’t have the love or fire in my belly that I should have and feel I would be putting myself at risk.”

McGlinchey leaves the ring with a record of 2-2.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games medal winner was noted for having a fan friendly style and brought a large vocal support with him. He was more than a welcome addition to the pro scene and there was genuine excitement when he made the switch.

But after two wins in two months in early 2017, the southpaw didn’t fight for over a year and a half.

“I love what I am doing now, passing my knowledge onto other people,” he added, “and I feel that I can give a lot. I have been boxing since I was eight years of age [and] I had a good run at the game.

“I would like to thank everyone that supported me and give me the massive support. Derry boxing is on the high and I look forward to watching the talent in this city come through.”
