Scott Fitzgerald is set to return to the ring next month.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist has been added to Matchroom Boxing’s next show, which will be aired exclusively live on Sky Sports.
Fitzgerald, 24 and 3-0 (3 KOs), only made his debut in February but was most recently in action at Liverpool’s Goodison Park on May 29.
But the Preston super-welterweight, who is managed by Steve Wood and promoted by Eddie Hearn, will box over four rounds at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on July 30, as part of the undercard to Josh Warrington’s WBC International featherweight title defence against former world title challenger Patrick Hyland.
The show, which is billed ‘Leeds Rumble’, will feature a number of championship contests as well as appearances for those who will move on to bigger and better things before the year is out.
And ‘Fitzy’, who made his pro bow on the undercard of the big super-bantamweight world title unification showdown between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg, stopping Ben Heap inside three rounds, before making it two from two with another stoppage in Liverpool in April against Robert Studzinski and ending Gabor Balogh in the same fashion last month, will be hoping to put on a dazzling display and shine in front of the vociferous crowd in Yorkshire.
He will be joined on the bill by British and WBC International bantamweight champion Ryan Burnett (13-0, 9 KOs), Connor Seymour and undefeated Darren Tetley, while the chief support contest is provided by Tyrone Nurse and Tommy Coyle as the pair meet in a mouthwatering super-lightweight clash for the former’s prestigious British title.
Elsewhere, Tommy Martin will fight for the first time since suffering his maiden pro defeat in January and Birmingham duo Frankie Gavin and Sam Eggington feature in separate contests ahead of a local derby in the Midlands in October.
Gamal Yafai will defend his Commonwealth bantamweight title for the first time against ex-British super-bantamweight title challenger Josh Wale and Olympic champion Luke Campbell will return from defeat in a solid 12-round contest against former IBF super-featherweight champion Argenis Mendez, while there is action for heavyweight Dillian Whyte, who returned to the ring with a knockout win on June 25 at London’s O2 Arena.
