According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, unbeaten junior middleweight contender James Kirkland still has a chance of returning to action in the month of November. Kirkland, imprisoned since April 2009 after pleading guilty to a charge of gun possession by a convicted felon, could be released from prison as early as this week, put in into a halfway house and potentially placed on a Golden Boy co-promoted card on November 6 in Newark, New Jersey.

"I think that it might be as early as this week. We are just waiting. Basically, I've been told that his release papers are all in order and we're just waiting for a bed in the halfway house to clear up," said Schaefer.

"If, in fact, he does get released this week, then we have to see, you know, what shape he's in. We'll need talk to him and see what's going on. We've had conversations with his manager, Cameron Dunkin, and his attorney, Michael Miller, and we anticipate having him make his comeback on Nov. 6, possibly. At least that is what we have targeted."

If it's Nov. 6, Kirkland would likely appear on the undercard of an HBO televised junior welterweight contest between Zab Judah and Lucas Matthysse, which takes place at the Prudential Center.
