The non-televised portion of Showtime's card from Agua Caliente in Rancho Mirage, California featured a good mix of up and coming prospects along side some grizzled veteran fighters.
Opening the card was Heavyweight prospect Lateef Kayode of Hollywood, CA against 30 fight veteran Billy Willis. Kayode, trained by Freddie Roach, displays a decent jab and right hand mix dropping Willis in the first from a right hand. Kayode came out strong in the 2nd overwhelming Willis wobbling him with a left and forcing referee Lou Morette to stop the contest. Kayode improves to 9-0 with 8KOs.
Fringe contender Freddy Hernandez had a tougher than expected fight for someone 26-1 going against a 7-8-1 fight but he managed a tough win inspite of the 78-74 78-74 and 80-72 scores.
Salvador Sanchez III won a lackluster decision over sub 500 fighter Rodrigo Aranda. The nickname "The Legend Continues" might want to be rethought as he shows nothing resembing his uncle, Mexian Legend, Salvador Sanchez. Scores were 60-54, 59-55 and 57-57 as Sanchez improves to 18-3-2 while Aranda drops to 8-12-2.
Gary Shaw's latest signing, Lenny Zappa, makes his US debut in spirited fashion by winging shots from opening bell bombarding the outmanned Sergio Macias winning a wide decision, improving to 22-0 while Macias drops to 18-15.
