The drama between Roy Jones Jr. and IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green is heating up. Jones' promotional company is protesting the first-round TKO loss to Green on December 2 in Australia. Jones is claiming several violations the concern that way Green's hands were wrapped; alleged violations that caused Green's wraps to harden for a much stronger punching effect.
Green's manager, Justin Manolikos, has shot back at Jones. He says the former four-division champion is a sore loser who is trying to ruin the reputation of Green and hurt his marketability in the United States. He took a hard shot at Jones by calling him a "steroids cheat" - refering to Jones' positive test result for androstenedione in 2000. Jones was not alone, his opponent for that fight, Richard Hall, also tested positive for a banned steroid substance. No action has ever been taken against either fighter.
"He's had his hands wrapped the same way for however many years, including in the USA under their jurisdiction," an upset Manolikos told The Sunday Times. "He boxed there in August and there wasn't any complaints there in August. Coming from a steroids cheat, it's a bit of a cheap shot."
