WBA junior flyweight champion Román "Chocolatito" Gonzalez would love to unify the titles in his weight division, but says the other champions are not willing and promoters are not open to providing the boxers with enough money to make these fights happen.
Gonzalez has been trying to get fights with Ulises "Archie" Solis, the IBF flyweight champion, and Donnie Nietes, the WBO flyweight champion.
Eventually, Gonzalez wants to move up in weight to challenge Brian Viloria (30-3, 17KOs), the IBF's champion, but a move in weight is not going to happen at the moment.
As previously reported, "Chocolatito" (32-0, 27 KOs) and his team are planning to make their next defense in July, possibly in Japan, against Ryo Miyazaki.
"From what we understand, there are some good deals out there for Roman, but the most important matter [at the moment] is taking place in the month of July against the Japanese challenger," said Arnulfo Obando, the coach of "Chocolatito".
"There is interest to see Roman fight Brian Viloria (IBF flyweight champion), but we are not going to move up in weight at this time. Although we had some trouble making weight in Pomona, a move in weight is not the right decision at this time."
