Roger Mayweather, uncle and co-trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) took aim at Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya - over Oscar's recent prediction that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) would score a knockout over Mayweather within eight rounds. Mayweather-Canelo takes place on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
De La Hoya fought Mayweather in 2007 and took the undefeated boxer to his limit. In the end, Mayweather won a close twelve round split decision.
"De La Hoya got his ass whooped already. He already got whooped by Floyd, so of course he's going to say Floyd is going to get knocked out by the eight round. The thing about it, he ain't going to knock him out in eight rounds, he ain't going to outbox him - all that motherf*****er is going to do is lose. And when that happens, you come back and tell me what he says. That motherf***er is just mad, he's still mad [that he lost to Floyd]. No matter what you say or what you do, [using your head and being smart] is what wins fights and [Canelo] doesn't know how to do that," Roger said to BoxingScene.com.
However, Roger credits De La Hoya as being a tougher opponent than Canelo at 154-pounds.
"I think Oscar was better. De La Hoya had the weight and size and he could punch," Roger said.
