Former WBC super-middleweight champion Robin Reid is to dust off his gloves at the age of 39 to make his boxing comeback in January 29th’s Prizefighter: The Light-heavyweights tournament.
Reid has not fought since losing in five rounds to Carl Froch for the British title in 2007 and will campaign up at 175lb for only the second time in his 46 fight career – 39 wins against 6 defeats and 1 draw.
‘The Grim Reaper’ won WBC, WBF and IBO titles in his 168lb heyday; he pushed WBO boss Joe Calzaghe all the way to a split decision in 1999 and was the victim of some dubious officiating when losing out on points to Sven Ottke for the WBA and IBF titles in 2003. Runcorn’s finest joins Liverpool’s Tony Dodson in the quest to win the £32,000 purse.
