Now with the retirement of five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., there is an ongoing debate as to which fighter is going to become the next superstar of boxing.

The legend himself, Hall of Famer Robert "Hands of Stone" Duran, thought very little of Mayweather. He was far from a fan of Mayweather's fighting style and felt the unbeaten pound-for-pound king would have been beaten by the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns.

In the opinion of Duran, the new superstar of boxing is Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) of Mexico. Canelo challenges Miguel Cotto for the WBC middleweight championship on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

For Duran, Canelo has the style, the charisma, the boxing ability and the youth. He has no doubts about his ability to beat Cotto next month.

Even with his three fight win streak, and trainer Freddie Roach at this side, Duran says the Puerto Rican boxer is no longer at his best and won't be able to hold Canelo off.

"As I have always said, Floyd Mayweather would not have been anyone during my era. For me, Canelo Alvarez is the new star of boxing. He has youth, he has power. And despite already losing once, he is fine. Miguel Cotto is no longer in his prime and I'm positive Alvarez is going to win this fight," Duran said.
