Ricky Hatton has given a clear indication that he may one day be tempted into a fight with WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan, but only if the ‘Hitman’s’ promotional outfit puts the contest together.
Hatton, 30, told Sky Sports News that his spats with promoter Frank Warren would prevent him from fighting on a Warren bill; despite this, the Mancunian is prepared to consider a Khan showdown.
“It's been well documented over the years the problems I have had with Frank Warren,” said Hatton. “It would be a non-starter unless I promoted it. In business terms it's not even a starting point if Frank is going to promote it. I'm not saying it's never going to happen. It all depends on whether I choose to fight again or whether I don't. If six, eight, 12 months go by and then I do decide to fight again - and Amir's the champion - then obviously it is a possibility.”
Hatton was recently hospitalised due to a bout of food poisoning, he is also coming off the worst defeat of his career, a two-round shellacking against Manny Pacquiao. Still, Hatton is a major draw, and a fight with Khan would capture the attention of UK fans.
