PROMOTER Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr. wants WBO Inter-Continental light flyweight champion Rexon “Pison” Flores to make his first fight as early as February next year.
Looking for another world title shot, Elorde is looking for a Thai fighter from Win Panyaparichot’s stable in Bangkok, Thailand.
Elorde believes Flores needed to take another warm up fight before making another title defense or getting a possible shot against WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon of Puerto Rico.
The 24-year-old native of Cadiz City fought unbeaten WBO flyweight champion Omar Narvaez in August last year in Argentina as the top ranked contender and WBO Asia Pacific flyweight champion.
“He came out short but he did a great job because he the only on his Narvaez last seven opponent to get the fight in a distance,” said Elorde referring to a six-fight knockout winning streak of the Argentine boxer prior to the fight held in Cordoba.
Flores has a record of 18 wins, three losses and 9 of those wins were by way of knockouts. His last ring appearance was resulted in his second win in as many fights against Terdkiat Jandaeng of Thailand on August 4 at Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Paranaque.
Flores’ next fight will become a part of the card that will be bannered by his successor, the reigning WBO Asia Pacific flyweight king Drian “Little Espinosa” Francisco.
Elorde is waiting for WBO’s approval of another Thai challenger, Yodsurk Sitramkamheang, as Francisco’s second challenger.
The 25-year-old Francisco won the crown with devastating seventh round stoppage win over Pichitchok Singmanassak of Thailand at Mandaluyong Gym in December of last year, the same night when Flores took his crown with unanimous decision win over another Thai, Wisan Sor Suchanya in the main event.
In the latest rankings, the WBO ranks Flores No. 2 contender under Calderon and has him at No. 3 under Narvaez.
