For lack of better words, Devin Haney has always shown to have a huge set of cajones.

For the 24-year-old, he’s craved the big stage and the bright lights. And while he feels as though he was forced to wait a bit longer than he wanted, when he was given the opportunity, he ran with it.

Following back-to-back victories over George Kambosos Jr., Haney reigned over the lightweight division as an undisputed champion. In the second defense of his newly won crown, the Las Vegas, native managed to eke out a somewhat controversial decision against Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Although many have urged him to quiet the dubious voices that surround the outcome of their clash and run things back, Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) appears ready to move on from the lightweight division and try his hand at 140 pounds. According to Eddie Hearn, Haney recently reached out to him and expressed his desire to face current WBC titlist, Regis Prograis.

News of Haney calling him out came as a surprise to Prograis. But that doesn't mean he isn’t appreciative of his attitude. All in all, while he respects his ambitions, Prograis (28-1, 24 KOs) doesn't believe that facing him would be a sagacious move on Haney's part.

“I think I hurt Devin,” said Prograis to BoxingScene.com. “I really think I hurt him. Stop him? I don’t know. But I really think I hurt him.”

To Prograis, he can look to more than just his own pernicious knockout power as an indication that Haney’s proposed clash against him wouldn’t end well.

In the midst of preparing for his upcoming showdown against Danielito Zorrilla, Prograis took a pause to watch both Haney and Lomachenko square off. Outside of their controversial ending, Prograis points to the success Lomachenko experienced with his straight left hand. Considering the damage the smaller Ukrainian inflicted, Prograis believes that if he were able to land those same blows, Haney’s night would end quick, fast, and in a hurry.

“Loma hurt him and I’m a natural 140-pounder. I’m fast and I’m strong. I definitely feel like I can hurt him.”
