Everything appeared to be official to Regis Prograis. But then it wasn’t.

For the WBC super lightweight champ, he’s been wanting to join in on the recent trend of big-time fights this year. Devin Haney became the perfect option. The current undisputed lightweight champ has struggled with making the 135-pound limit for years now and openly flirted with the idea of moving up in weight.

After mulling it over, team Haney announced that Prograis was their next target. The next few steps were simple. The two sides immured themselves and began hammering out a deal. According to Prograis, things seemed fine contractually. So, with everything to his liking, the 34-year-old revealed that he signed his name on the dotted line. His frustrations, however, stem from a few loose ends on the back channels.

Prograis, at this stage, is flummoxed as to why Haney hasn’t signed his side of the contract. If things aren’t cleared up soon, the two-time champ admits that he could leave Haney in the dust and explore his options.

“I definitely wanna fight Devin,” Prograis told BoxingScene.com. “For sure I wanna fight Devin but I’m not gonna wait around. They got other fights for me.”

Prograis’ threats may come off as innocuous. Despite his frustrations, the New Orleans native would love to share the ring with Haney and knock him off his high horse. In terms of the options he has at his immediate disposal, Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) listed off the likes of Sandor Martin, Teofimo Lopez, and Ryan Garcia as more pleasing alternatives.

Haney, although he remains the A side against Prograis, may have limited choices according to Prograis. Walking away from their deal is a last resort for the current champ but if Haney doesn’t move a bit quicker on his end, Prograis publicizes that he has no issues going in another direction.

“Right now, he needs me more than I need him.”
