Roger Mayweather, uncle and co-trainer of WBC/WBO/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., says his nephew was struggling a bit in most recent training camp because both of his hands were hurting him.
Mayweather has a very long history of dealing with hand problems. He would often receive injections in his hands to deal with the pain.
Roger revealed the information due to the current spotlight being shined on Manny Pacquiao's right shoulder injury.
Mayweather won a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. After the match he disclosed that he suffered a right shoulder injury a month before the contest and then further injured himself during the fight. Pacquiao had surgery last Wednesday.
Also after the match, Mayweather revealed that he too entered the contest with several injuries, but he didn't want to complain about them when asked for details by reporters.
"I actually told my nephew, I said, 'You need to start going to his mother***ing body, start taking that body away from his ass and you’re gonna stop him,” but he didn’t do it. But his hands were hurting, I know his hands were hurting because his hands were hurting in the backroom when I was training him. I was warming him up and his hand was hurting. He did what he could do but if they fought again, he’d knock him out. If Floyd and Pacquiao fought again, Floyd would knock him out," Roger told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
