Primetime to broadcast Pacquiao-Marquez III and Khan’s next bout?
By Terence Dooley
British PPV broadcaster Primetime looks set to add to its boxing output by securing the third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12th as well as Amir Khan’s proposed December 10th outing against Lamont Peterson. They also televise Floyd Mayweather’s WBC welterweight title challenge to Victor Ortiz in the early hours of Sunday morning and will close out the year with a brace of boxing bills.
Khan, 26-1 (18), moved over to Primetime in April after Sky PPV pulled the plug on Amir’s homecoming contest with Ireland’s Paul McCloskey at Manchester’s MEN Arena. Sky offered to move ‘King’ Khan to one of their regular channels only for Team Khan to set up a switch to Primetime, the TV station also showed the WBA/IBF light-welterweight showdown between the Lancastrian and Zab Judah on July 23rd.
Pacquiao, 53-3-2 (38), hopes to finally put the Marquez issue to bed come the fall. Juan, 53-5-1 (39), was deemed unlucky when coming away with a draw and a defeat in his two previous tussles with the Philippine legend but may be out-gunned despite the WBO welterweight title fight taking place at a contracted weight of 144lbs.
Mayweather, Pacquiao and Khan have all been linked in recent months, with Manny and Amir seen as natural opponents for ‘Money’ during 2012 and beyond should the American continue in the sport. Floyd, 41-0 (25), is likely to pluck away Ortiz’s crown tomorrow night to set up a tantalizing 2012 if the parties concerned manage to put politicking to one side.
