Ivan Kirpa, who trains heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21KOs), has dissected the recent victory by WBC champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33KOs).
In May, Povetkin knocked out Mike Perez in one round to become the mandatory challenger to Wilder's championship. Wilder made the first defense of his belt by knocking out Eric Molina in nine rounds last month.
The World Boxing Council will order the two fighters to negotiate the terms of their contest in October.
Kirpa has watched quite a few of Wilder's fights and noticed he makes the same mistakes, even against Molina. Kirpa will put together a strategy for Povetkin to expose those mistakes.
"I watched this fight [between Wilder and Molina] with interest, because I watch all of the fights of likely contenders and try to find their dangerous side as well as the shortcomings and weaknesses in their work. We have an understanding of what to expect from Wilder and how to put him in a situation in which he shows his weaknesses," Kirpa said.
"I constantly think about [the strategy to expose Wilder's flaws] and I've already made a decisions on that, but for now I do not want to disclose them. In the fight with Molina, Wilder showed a lot of interesting things, but I've seen his previous fights, including those with Nikolai Firtha and Sergei Liakhovich, and I can say that in the fight with Molina - Wilder had continued to make the same exact mistakes as he's made before [in other fights]."
