Los Mochis, Mexico - Proudly carrying his WBC bantamweight title, Fernando Montiel , arrived to his home of Los Mochis, Mexico on Monday night. Montiel, the WBO champion, captured the WBC title with a fourth round TKO over Hozumi Hasegawa last Friday in Japan. Montiel arrived at the Los Mochis International Airport and was greeted by his wife, children and friends who cheered him on.

"My mission was accomplished There was so much sacrifice but it was worth it. Something I had wished for since I was a child. I am very glad. I can die happy tomorrow. I wanted this belt since I was a kid," Montiel said.

"It was patience and intelligence. I was well prepared because I knew the people would be in his favor. He was the favorite in the betting, but a lot of people were wrong, but I went there with the mentality that I was going to win."

Montiel plans to keep both the WBO and WBC bantamweight titles. He plans to target a showdown with WBO mandatory Eric Morel for the later part of the year and then wants a crack at Vic Darchinyan.

"Yes, I'm going to stay with the two championships. We were discussing some time ago with promoter Fernando Beltran that I would fight with Morel possibly in the mid-year in June, but I wanted to rest...not so much from the fight but from the training," Montiel said. "I would like a fight against Vic Darchinyan."
